September 4: Latino Festival at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island

“Fiesta Latina, celebrating our roots” will occur at the Nebraska State Fair on September 4 in Grand Island.
“An event highlighting the greatness of our community in the entire state and that aims to preserve the roots of our vibrant Latino population,” said Monica Santacruz, a volunteer for the State Fair’s Latino Advisory Committee, told Mundo Latino.
This event was held in previous years, but in 2020 and 2021 was not celebrated because of the pandemic. Now in 2022, it returns with great force, and the organizers invite the county community and surroundings to enjoy a cultural event with music, folklore dance, and lots of fun.
Yolanda Nuncio, a Latino advisory committee member, told us that they’ve been working with the State Fair staff and that the Fiesta Latina event will be on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. “The activities will start at 10 in the morning and last until 11 pm; we will have cultural groups from Grand Island, Hastings, Lincoln, Omaha, Schuyler, and Lexington with two stages with performances in the largest street of the fair,” she said.
The event will also feature a car show, DJs, music, and more. After two years of the pandemic, Monica invites the community to stand up strong and show that we are united and revive our roots being a part of this beautiful event where all nationalities come together to bring family entertainment.
Although the program is already complete, Monica and Yolanda invite cultural groups to contact them so they can be part of the event in years to come.
Finally, they reiterated their invitation to the entire Latino community in the entire state to support this great family day, full of activities for the whole family. Yolanda Nuncio said, “We want the entire state and the communities to recognize that we are here and contributing to this country and this state and this community, and we want to celebrate them through this event.”
She wants to let the community know that although the “Fiesta Latina, Celebrating our Raices” is free, it is part of the Nebraska State Fair, where there is an entrance fee.
