Food Permit Deadline Has Passed
Food and drink businesses in Douglas County that have not renewed their permits are now considered delinquent. Invoices were mailed Nov. 1 and any business that has not paid for a new permit should contact the Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) at (402) 444-7480.
The DCHD Food Safety and Compliance section is funded through fees paid by 2,713 brick-and-mortar establishments, nearly 250 mobile food trucks, over 230 childcare centers, and more than 60 temporary events. The inspectors’ work protects the nearly 600,000 residents of Douglas County and the almost 13 million people who visit the county each year and dine in those establishments.
“Ensuring safe food service in the community is a partnership between food vendors and food safety inspectors,” Health Director Dr. Lindsay Huse said. “It’s important that our food and drink establishments get their fees paid so that we can continue partnering to make the metro one of the safest places to eat!”
Operating without a permit makes violators subject to a fine or more for each offense. The deadline to pay without a late fee is Jan. 9.
Seasonal businesses such as ice cream trucks and some food trucks are invoiced in the spring. Special events are invoiced when permit applications are made. Anyone with questions should call the Health Department at (402) 444-7480.
