Preston Love advances as the first African American nominee for the US Senate in Nebraska

OMAHA, NE – Preston Love declared victory as the first African American nominee for U.S. Senate in Nebraska tonight as early results were tallied. Love, a Democrat, will face Sen. Pete Ricketts in the General Election in November to represent Nebraskans in Washington.

Love said at an event in his North Omaha office, “Tonight, we are making history. Tonight, we are making a difference. Voters from all over the state of Nebraska have shown us that enough is enough.” He continued, “They’ve had enough of one-party rule. They’ve had enough of extremist policies from Trump, and they’re tired of Pete Ricketts spouting his MAGA talking points. Voters want a viable choice, and I’m happy to finally give them that choice in November.”

In front of a room full of supporters, Love explained, “I challenge voters across Nebraska, and voters in North Omaha, to stand up and be counted. Make your voice, and your choice, heard in the general election. I am honored to provide voters a real choice in this election – and I’m proud to stand up for reproductive rights, support organized labor, keep public funding for public schools, and support common-sense gun and climate change policies.”

Preston Love is challenging Senator Pete Ricketts for the U.S. Senate in November 2024. Love is a community advocate, adjunct professor teaching political science at the University of Nebraska Omaha, and a five-time published author who has worked in communities across Nebraska.
