The Story of Asriel Robles Mckeown

With much appreciation and affection, but above all, with deep respect for the Robles family, we share with our readers the touching story of Asriel, a boy whose life, although brief, was filled with love, joy and peace for those who had the privilege of knowing him. Asriel was the firstborn of Sergio and Ofelia Robles’ oldest son, Sergio Robles Jr. From his earliest days, this little angel brought light and magic to his family and to all those who were fortunate enough to see beyond his fragile condition. Diagnosed with Gauchers Type II, an acute neurological form of Gaucher disease, Asriel faced a monumental challenge. This disease, which manifests itself from infancy with symptoms such as progressive neurological deterioration, rigidity, seizures and developmental problems, deeply affected his life.

Despite the complications that the disease imposed on him, Asriel remained a happy and smiling child, brightening hearts and providing serenity. The tragic news of his passing was announced by Samantha Robles through a Facebook post, in which she expressed: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our beautiful Asriel has left the earth to go run on streets of gold. He was a beautiful, loving little boy who brought so much joy and light to our lives. Despite all of his trials and complications, he was still our happy, smiling boy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

As we come to terms with Asriel’s passing, my brother and sister-in-law are faced with the difficult task of organizing his final goodbye. My brother is the sole provider for his family. My sister-in-law was his caregiver taking him to his endless weekly appointments such as his infusions, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, routine visits, etc.

For this reason, we want to give Asriel the heartfelt goodbye he deserves, but unfortunately, the financial burden of funeral expenses is overwhelming for our family during this already difficult time. We are reaching out to all of our family and friends for support in honoring Asriel’s memory. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help ease the financial strain and allow us to focus on grieving and fondly remembering him. Funds raised will go toward funeral services, a plot, any burial costs, memorial arrangements, helicopter transportation to the hospital, and any remaining medical bills.
