Newlyweds died in tragic crash
A tragic crash on Thursday morning claimed the lives of newlyweds Ruben Rodriguez and Juliana Rodriguez Plata, along with Juliana’s mother, Luz Melba Martinez. The accident occurred on I-70 near Ward Road when a semitrailer spilled large pipes across the highway, hitting the family’s car. The couple’s 1-year-old son, Daniel, and Juliana’s father, Carlos Joaquin Plata, were injured and hospitalized but later released.
The family was heading to the mountains to celebrate the couple’s recent marriage. Just days before, they had celebrated their wedding and baptized their baby. The crash, which involved four vehicles, shut down the interstate for nearly eight hours.
The accident is still under investigation, and the Colorado Department of Transportation is considering lowering speeds in the construction zone where it occurred. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral costs and support Daniel during this difficult time.
