WSC To Host Synthetic Drug Danger Awareness Presentation, March 24

WAYNE, Neb. (Feb. 18, 2016) – The Wayne State College will host speaker Kali Smith, the founder of the Tyler J. Smith Purple Project for a presentation in Gardner Auditorium on the Wayne State College campus onMarch 24 at 3 p.m. The event is hosted by the Criminal Justice Association at Wayne State College.

Kali Smith is founder of the organization. She lost her son Tyler Smith at the age of 18 on Sept. 29, 2012 after he had ingested cherry flavored incense which is a synthetic drug that was sold illegally at the local gas station.

Since the loss of her son, Smith founded the Purple Project in Bellevue, Neb. to spread awareness about the dangers of synthetic drugs, and to prevent another life from being lost. She promotes hope within her community and empowers young people to make better, educated choices and learn to protect themselves from these dangers. The Purple Project was created by the family and friends of Tyler Smith.

Smith and her organization have made presentations at schools, churches, addiction centers, local law enforcement agencies and other general events. She works closely with law enforcement, State and Federal lawmakers to change laws to protect people from this happening to another individual. This organization has partnered with Live Wise Coalition, and belongs to the Bellevue Drug Commission and Safe Kids. We do presentations for schools, churches, groups, assemblies, law enforcement officials as well as striving to work closely with law enforcement and State and Federal lawmakers to change laws to protect young people.

Purple Project volunteers, Smith and other individuals within this movement strive to bring awareness and support to the community and people of all ages to the dangers of synthetic drugs and teen suicide.
