One of the most spectacular and charming voices that our state has is the talented and renowned singer Alexis Araí. Since she was a child, she has dedicated much of her time to preparing to follow her dreams and leave a mark for important scenarios. However, and despite the fact that her passion for music is part of the things that keep her motivated and happy, she was not always like this.
In an interview for Mundo Latino, Alexis opened his heart to us to share her fight against depression and how with faith and love for God, was able to get ahead of an illness that afflicts millions of people around the world.
“I’ve always had a taste for music; first I cried when I had to do it in front of others, but little by little I lost that fear. My family has always supported me, but sometimes, even if you have everything, it is difficult to get out of a deep moment when depression consumes you,” she said. “On certain occasions I felt insecure of myself, I fell into depression because I believed that what I was doing was not enough and it was a constant struggle between my thoughts, my reflection and the emotions that I kept in my heart. I believe that we all have difficult moments in life and many times they are necessary to value ourselves, but if you are far from God, those moments become eternal. In fact, that was what brought me peace in my life, to get closer to God and to clear my mind”, she expressed.
Contrary to what many might believe, Alexis is a shy girl who has found refuge in her presentations, in her music and her friends, but also in her husband Mauricio, who supports her greatly by sharing a taste for music, but also for see that she is happy doing what she loves.
“I would very much like to tell people to take care of themselves, to draw closer to God and to seek help when needed” she said.
She mentioned that today there are a lot of programs, organizations around mental health care, and the most important thing to keep in mind is to know that we are not alone.
The hotline 988 was recently launched nationwide that serves as a prevention of suicide and crisis and is also available in Spanish; “I feel blessed to live in a country that places a lot of emphasis on this social problem, where they give it the importance it deserves, and where, regardless of your immigration status, they can assist you free of charge in the face of a moment of impact that is leading you to think about attempting against your own life. Depression is not something to be taken lightly, it is a health problem, but it is one that can be treated and, by doing so, could save your life. So, never think that you are alone because as immigrants, although we could literally be facing the sadness of not having our family close by or the battles of life no matter how hard they may be” she said.
