The community united to help a young Hispanic woman
So. Sioux City, NE. The community in South Sioux City, Nebraska, is coming together to help a young Hispanic woman. Angie Lopez is currently in an induced coma after a harrowing accident that occurred on November 11.
Angie was crossing the street when she was hit by a speeding motorcyclist, resulting in significant bruising all over her body, a fractured collarbone, and, most importantly, a severe traumatic brain injury that left her in a critical state.
The young woman had to undergo an emergency craniectomy to remove a portion of her skull and allow her brain to swell, as the impact of the incident was immense. Doctors are monitoring her 24/7 as this is still a very serious matter
Angie is currently 23 years old. She grew up in South Sioux City, where she excelled academically, played in the band, and was a cheerleader. Angie recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Before the accident, Angie planned to apply to Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs this year to pursue her lifelong dream of being a physical therapist to help people regain their strength, mobility and lives after life-altering events.
100% of contributions will go to help Angie on this long road to physical and emotional recovery. She will remain in intensive care at the hospital for an unknown amount of time.
There has been a great display of generosity from the community. More than 250 people have donated, raising more than $15,000 to help Angie during this difficult time.
