The vote of Mexicans residing abroad for the 2024 elections



On June 2, 2024, the largest election day in the history of Mexico will be held. The positions of President of the Republic, 128 senatorial positions, seven governorships (Chiapas, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Morelos, Puebla, and Yucatán), and delegations of Mexico City, Jalisco, and Oaxaca will be voted on.

  • Additionally, for the first time in history, it will be possible to vote in person at 23 Mexican consular offices in the United States, Canada, Spain, and France.
  • The deadline for registering to vote from abroad is February 20, 2024.
  • All Mexicans who do not have a valid voting card are recommended to process it no later than January 15, 2024, in order to receive it in time to register.
  • The procedure is available without an appointment at all Mexican embassies and consulates. The application is entirely free and takes only a few minutes.

  • People who have a valid credential and register no later than February 20, 2024, may choose to vote through one of these three modalities:
    Postal: during the first week of May 2024, people who choose this modality will receive, at their home, a package sent by the INE that will contain the ballots to cast their vote and a prepaid envelope to send them back to Mexico at no cost.
    Electronic: people who choose this modality will receive an email from the INE no later than May 3, 2024, with the keys to vote on the Institute’s platform.
    In-person: people may attend one of the consular offices enabled for this modality to cast their vote through electronic ballot boxes.
  • People who have not registered before February 20 can vote only in person at one of the 23 consular offices where polls will be installed.
    United States: Atlanta – Chicago – Dallas – Fresno – Houston – Los Angeles – New Brunswick – New York- Oklahoma – Orlando – Phoenix – Raleigh – Sacramento – San Bernardino – San Diego – San Francisco – San José – Santa Ana – Seattle – Washington D.C.
    Canada: Montreal
    Europe: Madrid, Spain, Paris, France.
  • The requirements to process the voting credential are:
    A document that proves Mexican nationality, such as a birth certificate, naturalization letter, and consular registration (as long as it contains the CURP).
    Identification with a valid photograph no more than ten years old, for example, a passport, consular registration, or driver’s license.
    Proof of address, such as a receipt for a tax payment, telephone, gas, or television payment, or your bank statement.
  • Once the application is submitted to an embassy or consulate, the INE processes the procedure and subsequently sends the credential directly to the person’s home within a period of approximately three weeks.
