Consulado de Guatemala en Omaha expedites consular procedures: Passports in one hour

In an interview for Mundo Latino, Consul General Billy Muñoz of the Guatemalan Consulate in Omaha shared details about the most anticipated procedures at the government agency. Consul Muñoz revealed the date on which the consulate, which will become a Passport Printing Center, will formalize consular appointments for the consular card and the Guatemalan passport.

“I am thrilled to announce that, starting April 1, our compatriots will be able to make appointments online through our website: www.citaconsularguatemala.com, which will begin to be attended to in an efficient and timely manner on the 15th of the same month,” said the consul.

After a decade of planning and waiting, the Guatemalan consulate finally has the green light to operate distinctively as one of the 13 consulates in the consular network that will issue passports in just 1 hour. “Of all the 25 consulates that operate within the country, we will be part of the 13 that will grant the passport in no more than an hour, thus counting on all the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Commission of the Guatemalan Migration Institute,” he said. Muñoz.

The consul also announced the approval of multiple positions under the new government of President Bernardo Arévalo, which will allow trained personnel to operate in all areas of the consulate. This includes telephone service in Spanish, K’iche’, and Maya Q’anjob’al, a significant step to serving all Guatemalan compatriots in the languages above.

However, the consul highlighted the problem of appointments since some individuals have scammed people by charging for something as simple as making an online appointment for consular services. He urged the Guatemalan community to be careful with possible scammers and carry out procedures personally and independently. In addition, he announced that people over 60 years of age or with special needs will not need to make an appointment.

The consulate’s commitment is to serve in a dignified manner in a space where each person feels welcome and receives quality service. The facility is located at 1010 N 96 St, Suite 200, Omaha, NE. Remember that appointments for any consular procedure will be carried out only through the website above starting April 1. To obtain information in the languages above, the lines (531)910-0230 and (531)910-0231 will be active and open to the public starting March 11.
