Consulate of Guatemala in Omaha Reports on Services and Denies Charges for Consular Appointments

After the inauguration of the Guatemalan Consulate in Omaha, Consul General Billy Muñoz, in an interview with Mundo Latino, gave details about the consular services in the implementation process and denied rumors about charges for consular appointments.

Currently, the consulate offers several free services, such as civil registration, marriage and death certificates, letter processing for children who need to travel interstate or abroad, unique travel passes to Guatemala for those without a passport or in the process of being issued, as well such as consular protection, repatriation of bodies and survival services for pensioners.

The Consul expressed his concern about cases of scams in which individuals request money in exchange for scheduling appointments. However, he reiterated the Consulate’s commitment to providing quality services, efficiency, and, above all, reliable information at no cost.

More requested services, such as passports, consular cards, and DPI (personal identification documents), will be available in February 2024. These services will have a cost and be managed through CitaConsularGuatemala.com. Although the Omaha Consulate is not yet listed on the portal, once added, it will be available for the five states it will serve: Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, and, of course, Nebraska.

In addition, mobile consulates will be established to serve those in need of consular services in and around the aforementioned states. To process the passport, a birth certificate (RENAP), DPI, and payment of fees will be required, which will be $65 for a five-year passport, $100 for a ten-year passport, and $25 for the consular card. Payment will be made by money order on the day of the appointment. On the other hand, the issuance of the DPI costs $15 and is already being issued.

Consul Muñoz invited the community to follow reliable information through the Facebook page “Consulate General of Guatemala in Omaha”, where they will share informative videos and details about active and upcoming consular services. The consulate operates Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 1010 N 96th Street, suite 200, Omaha, Nebraska, 68114.

Finally, in a warm Christmas message, the Consul wished all of his compatriots happy holidays, hoping that love, joy, and tranquility will prosper in their homes and with their families during this festive season.
