For Reading Day, Sioux City Police Officers Read Books to Students

Promoting the habit of reading is a task that many teachers throughout the country promote daily. Now, these teachers have a great ally: the Sioux City Police Department.

For Reading Day, Officers Lozano and Ortiz read children’s books from “Beyond the Bell” to children at various historic locations around the city.

In this way, the security forces strengthen their bond with the community through an activity that mixes the recreational with the cultural and, at the same time, they help teachers to promote the emergence of new readers.

It is good to remember that there is also a project called F.U.N. (whose acronym stands for Friendship, Unity and Neighbors) where agents organize meetings with children and their parents.
At these events, talks and games are held, the objective of which is for the police to become a known presence for the little ones so that they can turn to them if necessary.
